Modeling supply-chain networks with firm-to-firm wire transfers

We study a novel economic network (supply chain) comprised of wire transfers (electronic payment transactions) among the universe firms in Brazil (6.2 million firms). construct directed and weighted which vertices represent cities edges connote pairwise dependence between cities. Cities (vertices) collection all that location, links denote intercity transfers. find high degree integration trade network, consistent with specialization across Brazilian identify dominant role as customers suppliers to entire supply chain using centrality measures. The supply-chain has disassortative mixing pattern, is explained by heterogeneity size municipalities. becomes more during adverse times, such recession 2014 global financial crisis. use entrepreneurship data show one potential driver this change death small firms, leading greater concentration flows larger centers. Our results suggest events significantly impact meaningful heterogeneous consequences run econometric exercises courts’ efficiency plays dual role.
